CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of 80+ cannabinoids found in hemp plants’ flowers and leaves. CBD binds to endocannabinoid system (ECS) receptors in an animal’s body. The ECS–which interacts with many bodily systems–is activated by CBD and other cannabinoids in full-spectrum hemp.
Petco’s products with CBD are full-spectrum, which means they contain many cannabinoids, including CBD.
CBD vs Marijuana
Hemp and marijuana are variations of the Cannabis sativa plant. But what’s the difference? Hemp contains low levels of THC. Petco’s hemp-derived products contain less than 0.3 percent of THC, distinguishing it from marijuana
Are hemp and marijuana the same thing?
While they are derived from the same plant, hemp and marijuana are not the same. Hemp has very low levels of THC and has no psychoactive properties. Petco exclusively sells hemp-based products.
What is the endocannabinoid system (ECS)?
The ECS is a vital receptor system in human and animal bodies and is responsible for supporting and maintaining healthy balance. The ECS interacts with the immune, cardiovascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal and neurological systems.
Can hemp products have psychoactive effects on my pet?
Nope! Both Pet Releaf and Charlotte’s Web products contain less than 0.3 percent of THC, which eliminates any potential psychoactive effects. If you notice abnormal behavior or have any concerns about your pet using these products, please contact your veterinarian.
What’s the difference between hemp seed oil and full-spectrum hemp oil?
Hemp seed oil contains dietary fats, which can be beneficial to the skin. However, it does not include the same cannabinoids–such as CBD–as full-spectrum hemp. CBD and other cannabinoids can be found in hemp plants’ leaves and flowers. Once these cannabinoids are extracted, full-spectrum hemp is created. This process involves diluting the hemp with oils or putting it in chews.
How much product should I give my pet?
To safely use hemp products, follow the recommended usage and dosage listed on the items’ packaging.
Where will CBD products be sold?
Petco will be offering CBD products in the following states: Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, New Jersey, North Dakota, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington and Wyoming.
